Meet Your Osteopath in Tadcaster at Health Point Practice

If pain, an injury or a recurring problem is affecting the way you move, train or get through everyday life, you want to understand what is causing it and what you can realistically do about it. As an osteopath in Tadcaster, we combine detailed assessment, hands-on treatment, rehabilitation and practical advice to help people manage musculoskeletal problems with a clearer understanding of their condition and recovery.

How a Football Injury Sparked an Interest in Osteopathy

For Ed Burdett, the path into osteopathy started much earlier than his professional training.

At 13, Ed visited an osteopath after struggling with knee problems caused by playing football. What stood out was the hands-on nature of treatment. Rather than relying on medication, the osteopath used manual treatment to help address the problem and relieve his symptoms.

That experience stayed with him.

At the same time, Ed's growing interest in strength training led him to become increasingly interested in anatomy, physiology and how the body responds to movement, load and exercise.

Osteopathy brought those interests together: understanding how the body works, using hands-on clinical skills and helping people return to the activities that matter to them.

Why Health Point Practice Was Created

Working independently was always an ambition, but Health Point Practice was not created simply for the sake of running a business.

The aim was to bring together the parts of clinical practice Ed valued most from previous osteopathy roles and create a clinic where treatment could remain personal, practical and centred around the individual.

That means taking time to understand more than where something hurts.

We want to understand what has changed, what may be contributing to the problem, how it affects your work, sport or everyday life and what you are hoping to return to.

For one person, that might mean being able to walk comfortably again. For another, it could mean getting back to running, strength training or competing in sport.

Hands-On Treatment Supported by Rehabilitation

Our approach is built around combining clinical assessment and hands-on treatment with rehabilitation where appropriate.

Ed draws on his own experience of strength training, running and triathlon when developing exercise and rehabilitation programmes. This is particularly valuable when helping people return to sport or build confidence again after an injury or operation.

Treatment may include osteopathic techniques, exercise advice, rehabilitation and, where clinically appropriate, Medical Dry Needling.

We do not believe every patient needs the same treatment plan. What is appropriate depends on the condition, your examination findings, your goals and how the problem is affecting you.

At your first appointment, you can expect an assessment of your symptoms, a clinical diagnosis where appropriate, hands-on treatment and advice about exercise, home care or further rehabilitation.

The Problems We See Most Often

Lower back pain makes up a significant part of our clinical work.

This includes people dealing with general muscular and joint pain as well as more complex presentations involving disc prolapses, sciatica, spinal stenosis and pre- or post-surgical problems.

Sport and exercise are another important part of the practice.

Ed particularly enjoys working with runners experiencing tendon-related injuries, including:

  • Achilles tendon problems

  • Plantar fasciitis

  • Patellar tendon problems

  • Running-related overuse injuries

There is also a particular interest in shoulder problems affecting athletes and active people.

Headaches are another area of clinical interest, including migraine, tension-type headaches and headaches associated with the temporomandibular joint, or TMJ.

The aim is always to consider the wider picture rather than focusing only on the location of the symptoms.

Clinical Experience That Continues to Develop

Health Point Practice is built around ongoing professional development rather than relying solely on the qualifications gained at university.

Ed is registered with the General Osteopathic Council, the statutory regulator for osteopaths in the UK.

His additional training includes:

  • Advanced Medical Dry Needling

  • Continuing professional development in rehabilitation for runners

  • Training in lymphatic drainage using the Perrin Technique

  • Ongoing osteopathic CPD

Registered osteopaths are required to complete continuing professional development, and Ed undertakes the required 90 hours across each three-year CPD cycle.

The practice also works with private healthcare providers including Aviva, AXA, Simplyhealth and Vitality.

We additionally offer an MRI referral service where further investigation may be appropriate.

What Makes the Health Point Practice Approach Different

Our aim is not simply to treat the painful area and send someone on their way.

We combine personalised hands-on care with clinical reasoning, exercise and rehabilitation, while taking into account what the person actually wants to achieve.

That may mean helping somebody return to running after an Achilles problem, regain confidence after surgery or manage a longstanding back condition more effectively.

Personalised rehabilitation can also form part of care for patients returning to sport or recovering after an operation.

This approach reflects the way we believe musculoskeletal care should work: assess carefully, explain clearly, treat appropriately and give patients practical steps they can use outside the treatment room.

The Principles Behind the Way We Work

Understand Before Treating

We start by listening to what has happened, assessing the problem and understanding how it affects you.

Treat the Person, Not Just the Symptom

Pain can be influenced by movement, training, previous injuries, work and everyday habits. Our approach considers those wider factors where relevant.

Support Long-Term Progress

Hands-on treatment can be one part of care. Exercise, rehabilitation and home advice can help support recovery beyond the appointment itself.

Keep Learning

Osteopathy and musculoskeletal care continue to develop. Ongoing CPD helps us expand our clinical knowledge and treatment options.

Osteopathic Care From Our Tadcaster Clinic

Health Point Practice is based at 4–6 Bridge Street, Tadcaster, LS24 9AL.

We see people with a wide range of musculoskeletal problems, from everyday aches and back pain through to sporting injuries, post-surgical rehabilitation and recurring conditions that have begun to interfere with work, exercise or daily life.

If you are unsure whether osteopathy is the right option, you do not need to diagnose the problem yourself before getting in touch. An assessment is designed to help establish what may be happening and what the most appropriate next step could be.
